In 1976, during the recording of Pink Floyd’s album “Animals,” David installed a DiMarzio FS-1 in the bridge position, which was paired with the early ’70s Fender middle and neck pickups already in the guitar. This configuration was utilized for the following years and throughout the recording sessions for “The Wall”,up until 1979. A high-output bridge pickup offers increased midrange, sustain, and bite, perfectly complementing the classic vintage Strat pickups. This configuration is highly versatile, suitable for everything from pristine cleans to heavily distorted guitar tones.<\/p>\n

Another renowned guitarist who utilized the same set of pickups is The Edge from U2. The Edge\u2019s vintage Stratocaster, particularly the one used during the recording of \u201cThe Joshua Tree,\u201d featured the same combination of pickups.\u00a0In the mid-1980s he was looking for a fatter, more powerful sound compared to the standard single-coil pickups, and the FS-1 provided more output, which helped achieve the tone heard on many of U2\u2019s iconic tracks.<\/p>\n
